 Raleigh - Master Steve Follick was a student of Grand Master Chae Sun Yi of Topeka, Kansas, earning the master's rank of 5th dan. In 1984 he founded Sun Yi's Academies of North Carolina. Over the years, Master Follick trained approximately 90 black belts and over a thousand students in all. To his students he emphasized the mental and spiritual aspects of martial arts as much as the need to master physical techniques. He taught that Tae Kwon Do was a way to foster communication, understanding and respect among peoples of different cultures. In his final days he taught the tenets of Tae Kwon Do by example, particularly by demonstrating an indomitable spirit.
Master Follick lived his live with great energy and passion. He was generous in his gifts of knowledge and leadership to this students. He was generous in material support to anyone who was in need. Master Follick will be greatly missed by his students and friends.
